Planting bulbs of tulips differs from planting other flowers and bushes in many ways. Unlike other garden plants and flowers, which are planted in the spring and bloom in the summer, a majority of tulips are planted in the fall and produce flowers in the spring. Not only that, but unlike many other species of plants, tulips will grow year after year. This is true of wild tulips as well as of hybrid tulips.

Another major difference between bulbs, particularly tulips is in how they grow versus how other plants grow.  For example, many shrubs, bushes, and trees grow from a seed instead of a bulb, and the process of growth is slightly different for each.
